THERAPY & MOVEMENT
Therapy in Motion
Therapy in Motion is a therapeutic movement-based healing method, which translates issues and experiences into an embodied language. Combining movement with talking can increase the depth and effectiveness of therapeutic interventions. Simultaneously, it offers creative resources helpful in daily life.
Therapy in Motion is a specialised training from Open Floor International, for qualified therapists to utilise movement in a therapeutic setting with individuals or groups.
MORE ABOUT THERAPY IN MOTION
During my own process of recovery from trauma, I have discovered that the body can not be left out in the healing process. Conscious Dance practices have been a space for me to connect and move with whatever was expressing itself in my body-emotion-mind-self, in a contained environment, where I did not feel judged. I could attend to my needs at the time, stay in my own bubble, or connect with others; I learnt to listen to my senses, and be more spontaneous, authentic and real in my expressions of the sometimes complicated emotions that can come up when moving with others. I have made lasting friendships on the dancefloor, and continue to be amazed by the connections that can happen with others, often strangers, in a moment of sharing a dance. As an Art-form, Conscious Dance has become my medicine, my healer, and my place of Belonging.
Over the years, I have become a passionate advocate of integrating the body and movement into my work as a Psychotherapist; Therapy-in-Motion, as part of the Psychotherapy track on the OPEN FLOOR training, has been a response to my call to be supported in moving more closely in that direction.
Movement therapy is widely acknowledged now as an approach to work effectively with trauma, as it responds directly to the body, where trauma is stored (Bessel van der Kolk) . Movements sessions can be funded by ACC (sensitive claim) as part of recovery from sexual abuse trauma.
